Common Camera System Questions
QHow much does a commercial camera system cost?
It depends heavily on how many cameras, what type, and how complex the install. As a rough range: a small 4-camera retail system installed runs $3,500-$6,000. A 16-camera commercial system might be $12,000-$25,000. Larger multi-site systems scale from there. We provide written quotes after a site survey.
QWhat brands do you install?
We primarily install Uniview commercial IP cameras (excellent quality, fair pricing, professional NVRs). For higher-end applications we install Axis Communications. For specific applications (license plate, thermal, AI analytics) we use specialty brands. We avoid Hikvision and Dahua due to U.S. federal restrictions.
QWill the cameras work if the internet goes down?
Yes. Local recording continues regardless of internet status — the NVR keeps recording to its hard drives. You just lose remote viewing until the internet comes back. The cameras don’t depend on cloud connectivity for basic operation.
QCan we view cameras from multiple locations on one screen?
Yes — multi-site is a common request. Whether you have 2 locations or 50, we can build a unified dashboard where you see live and recorded video from every site in one app. Important for franchises, multi-store retail, and any business with more than one location.
QHow long is the recording retention?
Standard is 30 days. We can configure 60, 90, or longer with appropriate storage. The right retention depends on your industry — banks often need 90+ days, retail might be fine with 30. We size storage to your retention requirement.
QDo you do PoE switches and the network too?
Yes. Modern IP camera systems need proper PoE (Power over Ethernet) switches and a network configured for them. We design and install the network, switches, cabling, and cameras as one complete system. No vendor finger-pointing when there’s an issue.
