QWhat’s the difference between structured cabling and just running cables?
Structured cabling follows industry standards for topology, termination, labeling, and documentation. Just running cables is the wild west — works at first, becomes a nightmare in 2 years. Structured cabling is what’s expected by commercial building tenants, IT departments, and anyone who has to maintain the network long-term.
QHow many cable drops should each work area have?
Typical recommendation is 2-3 drops per desk for office work — one for the workstation, one for a phone (if separate from VoIP), and a spare. Conference rooms get 2-4 drops. Reception desks get 2-3. Modern open-office designs with hot-desking might use more drops per zone.
QDo you do under-floor or in-wall cabling?
Both. Under-floor cabling is common in offices with raised floors. In-wall cabling for traditional construction. We also do plenum-rated cabling for above suspended ceilings and outdoor cabling between buildings. We use the right cable type for the install location.
QWhat about fire stopping and code compliance?
Yes — we use plenum-rated cabling above suspended ceilings (where required), and we install fire-stopping at any penetrations through fire-rated walls. Our cabling installations pass building inspections and meet local fire code requirements.
QCan you work with our general contractor during construction?
Yes — and we prefer this. Installing cabling during construction (before drywall) is significantly cheaper than retrofitting after. We work with GCs to coordinate cable installation, conduit placement, telecom room locations, and electrical service to network closets.
